[ After living for so long as the loneliest man alive, it's strange to have this gaggle of persons floating around Lance's home. Most of the group was preparing to make a trip out to the desert to investigate whatever mystery is out there. He wouldn't admit it, but he remembered most of them from those days still at the garrison. Keith was no stranger to him at least, and his presence in the house was docile and easy to deal with. They'd been friends for a while. Hunk and Pidge he remembered as classmates and an in inseparable duo. He bristled around Hunk, however; his tendency for cockiness rubbed on Lance's own fragile pride.
The fourth of these was a mystery to him, and he could hardly say he's ever met a person quite as, well, handsome? Beautiful? Allura's visage is breathtaking, whichever adjective it is. While most people left him too uncomfortable for plain speech, he found himself anxiously fumbling for any way to converse with the unfamiliar beauty. And, well, extra flustered as he debated his attraction against a misguided belief that Allura was, well, a guy.
For a bit, anxiously plotting out his approach, Lance waffled in the kitchen, just on the opposite wall of Allura in the living room. Offer food? No, make food and THEN offer. NO. Make offer, don't show the food but already have it made, bring it in - oh wait, but there's also a chance she's not hungry. UGH. Stupid, stupid. In the next life, he'd like a little bit of that shitty overhyped confidence Hunk boasts, actually. No, he just has to go with something simple!
Eventually, a light knock on the wall announces his entrance, though he hangs cautiously on the entryway as he peers in. ] Hey, uh...
I'm about to make something to eat. You... want anything?
[It's no surprise that Lance didn't recognize her. He couldn't have. She'd arrived not long after Keith and two others had been reported as KIA, and, well... Even her thoughts pause there as does the quiet typing on a dimmed monitor so as to not bother the others who still were fast asleep in the house. She'd argued the night before that she would be fine on the couch, that she often slept in odder places due to her knack for falling asleep on her keyboard. This? Was nothing.
Yet Allura still bites her lip and furrows her brow at the paused thought. She could continue telling herself that, but with Keith's return... They had to be out there. They just had to be. The footage she'd briefly glimpsed before her bug had been noticed stated as much, but having physical proof that they had survived - not completely whole, mind - it meant a lot more than she could put to words.
She tucks a few stray pale platinum, almost-white hairs that had fallen from under her hat behind her ear. She'd initially transferred from the base outside Paris and away from her mother to keep trying to uncover the truth about her father and uncle, and to keep close watch on their former commanding officers who obviously cared little for the men under them. Never did she suspect she'd wind up caught in Pidge and Hunk's escapades, let alone the third in the trio of quirkiness.
Allura glances at a picture on her monitor for a brief moment before resuming her work. Something to help narrow down the signals coming from the desert, when she hears sounds coming from the kitchen, and then, after what is a long pause, a knock. Allura blinks, pausing in her typing before she turns toward the entryway between kitchen and living room. Ah.. She had been so preoccupied that she hadn't realized that she wasn't the only one awake.
Allura smiles back, sheepish before subtly lowering the screen of her laptop.] Oh- yes, that would be wonderful. Thank you.
[She pauses, before adding:] I realize my presence must be rather awkward, considering I had but recently transferred to the base we just busted Keith from, but.. would you like another set of hands?
[Cooking for five doesn't really sound as though it will be easy for someone who's used to cooking for only one.]
[ Lance flusters as Allura tries to apologize for herself, not knowing how to insist that she's fine and he's happy to have her there. The issue is closed as soon as it opens, and he's presented with an offer. ]
Oh, you don't-- [ he fans his head, and then closes them anxiously, gritting his teeth and glancing aside. ] Like. You can? That's cool. Definitely. If you want to. --But I mean if you're up to stuff like... You know it's cool if you just wanna chill there, too. I just uh- y... yea...
[Listen Lance, you're stuttering so she thinks a certain someone is nervous around her. It happens. As such, she quirks a brow at the continued stuttering before smiling faintly. It's kind of cute, honestly.]
I admit I'm... finding it hard to concentrate. [She admits, before looking back at the small computer in her lap.] I was about to take a break when you asked.
Right. Cool, cool.... [ Don't mind while he just..... really uncomfortably exists the room, hoping Allura is following after him. Or maybe he should have waited for her to follow??? Oh god, he did something wrong didn't he, HE JUST HAS TO COMMIT OR HE'LL MAKE IT WORSE his anxiety tells him.
When Allura comes in, she'll find Lance pulling the ingredients out and onto the counter top. Expectedly, the kitchen is small so working together might cause a little collision. He looks up, offers a small though nervous smile, and then pulls the single stool out for her. In one corner, there's actually a half repaired second stool. ] Here.
[Allura does, indeed, stand up to follow the owner of this tiny place. She can't help it as she tries (and barely succeeds) not to laugh at how endearing the nervousness is. Goodness, it isn't as though she's a vampire and going to suck his blood or anything. Just the new person! So why is he the nervous one?
And she completely misses the potential gay panic and budding crush signs. Good job, sweetie.
She smiles back reassuringly. See? Biggest threat is possibly bumping elbows or something. Though she looks between Lance and the stool in the corner that requires some repairs. It may not be an electronic device, yet it still gets some gears going.
... Maybe when they come back after checking out the desert. She looks back to Lance and nods.] Thank you. [She accepts it gladly, still thinking of possibly helping repair the poor thing in the corner while asking:] So, what would you like some help with?
[Prep or...? She knows her way around a kitchen knife.]
[ Clearly she doesn't understand that if they bump elbows, Lance's entire heart will terminate under the pressure of being near such a cutie. But at least he can manage to be near her without having a total meltdown. He looks around the kitchen, an 'um' on his lips. ] I guess just dice things? Here. [ He slides a few things toward her. It looks like he went shopping early in the morning to accommodate the quintupling of guests; there's fresh food of all varieties.
Lance helps, too, of course, taking a pepper and staying quiet for a bit as he ponders how to talk to Allura. Occasionally he steals glances at her, a little mad with himself for scrutinizing any kind of gender from her. ]
So... Al... You, uh, just joined the garrison, right?
[Nope, she completely missed that. Mostly because a lot of people in her former school before she joined the Garrison thought that she was a weirdo they couldn't figure out as most hit puberty. Also a nerd. Their loss.
She's just going to try to not blush as she looks sideways toward him and then away. Al thought that she'd heard the door earlier. Now she's embarrassed at how transfixed she was on a tech problem. Again. Instead, she's just going to get to work dicing the vegetables slid her way. Yep. Totally fine. Though the nickname and topic change helps.]
At this base, yes. [A small spark glistens in her blue eyes for a brief moment as she remembers the argument she had with her mother before she took off for Platt City. Still no regrets because aliens. She told Bob in year seven that they exist! Who's laughing now? (No one that's who.)
She glances back before returning her attention to what she was doing.] I transferred from the western Europe base. Mum was none too pleased, even though she understood why.

What, like, "didn't want her kiddo so far from home or something" not too pleased?
